Brighton 2006
City Running Brighton took place during the Brighton International Festival 2006, at Phoenix Gallery, the largest white space gallery in the city. The event ran over six weeks from April through to June and worked with over 50 artists from a variety of creative disciplines, including visual and performing arts, music and film, Parkour, architecture and fine art. It attracted large audience numbers, many of whom were non-traditional arts attenders. It also achieved continuous media coverage and won the Festival Innovation Award.
‘I liked the adventurous, even dangerous angle of going into the city on a Saturday night to find a creative catalyst or material. I like deadlines and missions, and this strolling out with a time-schedule to gather ‘material’ is an exercise I would definitely like to repeat. A lot of interesting artefacts were created, and I enjoyed the individual perspectives. Cool event, cool venue, cool curators... grandly groovy.’

‘I found the experience very rejuvenating creatively and I think that if I was given the opportunity to go our every week for a month in the same way that it would have affected my practice over time. I found the other disciplines to be quite inspirational. Working with other artists was both great and a bit difficult.’
